Thomas Schildhauer

Computer scientist, marketing expert and internet researcher Prof. Schildhauer founded the Institute of Electronic Business (IEB) at the University of the Arts in Berlin in 1999. Furthermore, he is the director of the Zentralinstitut für Weiterbildung (ZIW), which is coordinating the advanced training offers of the university.

In these functions, Prof. Schildhauer leads various master degrees, i.e. "Master in Leadership in Digital Communication", „Master in Sound Studies" and "Master in Cultural Journalism". Prof. Schildhauer is a member of the extended executive committee of the Universität of the Arts Berlin. He is also a guest lecturer in the Information and Management Technology master programme at the University of St. Gallen.

Prof. Schildhauer has over a decade of experience in the research and development of internet based business models and has initiated and led hundreds of application-oriented research projects. A number of publications in this area of the creative industry have documented his intensive examination of the effects of digital media on interpersonal and corporate communication. Currently, Prof. Schildhauer has published the much acclaimed Handbook to Social Media.

Prof. Schildhauer is the member of various boards of companies in the creative and media industries. He is also a member of the creative industry caucus at the chamber of commerce (IHK) in Berlin and a jury member of the innovation award Berlin-Brandenburg. As a coach and business angel, Prof. Schildhauer is supporting select start-ups.
